Enlightenment thinkers-montesquieu

The time machine has now sent us to meet a thinker with a really long name, hopefully you can pronounce the name, Charles-Louis de Secondat, Baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu. But historian refer him as just Montesquieu. He lived during the age of enlightenment, his ideas were a big contribution to the government of today. His ideas included:

  • separation of powers
  • 3 branches of government
  • legislative, executive, judicial
  • “checks and balances”

These ideas sound familiar huh? They were used as the foundation of the U.S constitution, the 3 branches of government, and are the basis of the current government.

"To become truly great, one has to stand with people, not above them."- montesquieu
